WHY I CHOOSE HTML5 TO MAKE GAMES NOW

Basically I think HTML5 is a way better option for small game projects. For those that know me, they know they I don’t like spending unnecessary money and now with HTLM5 that’s a possibility. I no longer have to spend money putting my games on the app stores. However when I was starting out in 2013, HTML5 wasn’t an option nor playing games on the web browser via your phone. Now that technology is better we don’t have any more restrictions, but It took me awhile to finally see the beauty of HTML5.

Back in the day Google Play and the Apple App stores were the only ways to get your games onto a cell phone. So I started off promoting my game on the Google Play store because it was cheaper and I thought I might get better engagement. However, I started to realize that more people owned iPhones, so I had a decision to make. Stick with Google Play or move to the App Store. Ultimately I decided to get a MacBook and build my game to be compatible with Apple. But by the time I finally got my hands on a MacBook and started on this new path, technology had already moved on. The internet was done with Flash and it seemed like everyone left it for HTML5. Then when the game Wordle came out, it grew in popularity because it was a fun game that was easy to access. Because it was HTML5, I noticed that you could play it on any device with a web browser. The downside was that you had to make sure there was a mobile or wifi signal to play, unlike if you downloaded a game off the App Store you could play offline and with motion control. Ultimately for me… HTML5 was still the best option because I didn’t have to follow all the strict rules of the app platforms, and best of all I DIDN’T HAVE TO PAY THOSE FEES ANYMORE.

Moral of this this article is if you’re patient while things are changing, you can still find a way.
